Warsaw
We shot a fashion promotional video in the “spec” format for a famous clothing brand in the center of Warsaw with an aspiring model. We selected locations that would look good without additional light, and then drew up a storyboard and shooting plan. Then we started filming in the city with all the documentation.
A small team of professionals led by Nikita Pinigin and Sasha Aleinikov filmed all the necessary material in half a day. Then, within a few days in the studio, editing and color correction were completed. The entire fashion promotional video was completely ready a week after receiving the assignment from the client.
Task
To shoot a fashion promotional video in "spec" format for a popular clothing brand in the center of Warsaw with a beginner model and completely no budget. The challenge was accepted. The team completed the work in one week, taking into account pre-production, and released a suitable video.
⬤ 01. Challenge
Show the customer that we can make a fashion promo video without a budget.
A fashion promotional video for a large clothing brand was shot by our team without a budget in the center of Warsaw. It’s hard to say whether the brand itself would have liked this spec or not, but the job was done well. The team pre-selected the locations where the fashion video was shot, the model and clothes for filming. Second director Nikita Pinigin managed to come to an agreement with one of the locations. Pre-production started a week before filming. This allowed us to cut the budget for fashion promotional videos in half.
When the team starts to get bored, we come up with projects in new segments. This is exactly the kind of project we came up with in the fashion promotion segment. For example, if H&M approached us, what would their commercial look like? We decided to simply dress the model in H&M and walk around Warsaw.
Our video production company decided to limit ourselves to a zero budget, and took a minimum number of participants into the team, so as not to coordinate filming in the city. Having identified the locations in advance, we shot frame by frame according to the storyboard.
⬤ 02. Production and post
Fashion promo video production is usually simple and quick, but you need to get a feel for the brand.
A fashion video requires a lot of concentration when working with models. The director of the project must keep a lot of information in his field of vision and adjust the models and their bows. The costume designer is responsible for the clothes on set, and the make-up artist is responsible for the appearance. If the shooting is on location, then the make-up artist must be on site. Otherwise, you risk losing the quality of your fashion promo video. You definitely need to be sure that the models are impeccable for your fashion promo video to be a success.
Post-production took only a couple of days because we acted strictly according to plan and understood all the shots in advance. Therefore, the director simply set the task for the model, and the cameraman filmed.
To create a storyboard for the video, we looked at ready-made videos that were made for this brand. We tried to get into their character as accurately as possible, and it seems we succeeded.

When color grading, we took inspiration from Villeneuve’s work and made a slightly flat LUT, enhancing the pastel colors. Since we shot on RED, we needed to twist the colors more, so they are more saturated than in ARRI.
We added noise reduction and graining to the top of the picture using Dehancer. It is this plugin that allows you to get the most natural film effect. We approve of this.
⬤ 03. Equipment
To shoot a fashion promo video, we took a RED Komodo camera and Zeiss lenses.
A fashion promotional video usually has a standard structure. The director can choose a classic video, when the model just walks somewhere and looks thoughtfully. Or sits and gets up later. You can also choose a game version of the video, when each model receives an acting task. It is this simple task given by the director that allows the model not to think about how to play the role. She simply performs the action and you get a natural fashion promo video. To decide on the choice of artist, look at the Instagram of our production company YOPRST.
