Too late
We shot LGBTq short film. A movie on a resonant topic which is not customary to talk about aloud in the CIS countries, despite the efforts of Netflix and other streaming services. Making a short film was a difficult task, especially at this time.
Misunderstanding and hatred towards minorities is still manifested in society. At the same time, local media, whose employees, being not intellectually developed, continue to escalate the situation. Meanwhile, killings and violence against members of minorities in the CIS countries continue to this day.
Task
Talk about the LGBTq issue again and once again remind people that it has not disappeared from the agenda, and that negative emotions caused by watching propaganda on television in the CIS countries or hearing other people's opinions often lead to unpredictable results.
⬤ 01. Challenge
We wanted to make a LGBTQ short film about how the truth is not obvious right away.
It is very difficult to make a festival short film LGBTQ, especially in the CIS countries. When you start a project like this, you will inevitably run into problems. They are due to the fact that in these countries there are a lot of prejudices about minorities. Prejudice haunts people due to ignorance and misinformation from the media. If you were able to gather a team of like-minded people for such a project, then you are very lucky. Any LGBTq short film is a challenge for everyone now, but success is guaranteed.
When you plan to make a short film about LGBTq on a small budget, you will run into problems. It was the debut film of our director, where organicity in the frame was important to him, so we did not invite professional actors and did not use expensive filming equipment.
We limited the staff to a team of ten people and started casting and searching for locations. Casting among young actors was difficult, as half of them refused due to the risk of tarnishing their careers with LGBTQ topics.
⬤ 02. Production and post
A festival short film LGBTq should be made only with professional production.
If your LGBTq short film starts winning awards at festivals, you will gain enormous exposure. Your team will become popular in the film community and will begin to receive offers to make a festival film about LGBTQ people. You will receive fame, honor, prestige, and the company will earn a lot of money. This success should not be stopped because the trend for social films will not last long. History shows that fashion and trends are cyclical and every 30-40 years the circle repeats itself. If you seriously want to make your own short film LGBT, check out the Instagram of our production company YOPRST.
Any short film often talks about a single event, briefly and succinctly. Our video production company did not use graphics or special effects, but we relied on a good picture and dynamics in some scenes.
We additionally invited a team of professional lighting and a stunt coordinator to shoot, so that the viewer does not have a feeling of unreality of events.

In this short LGBT film, we used different color schemes for each stage of the life of the characters. At the beginning it is warmer, then it turns into a cold color palette. In all colors, the saturation was muted.
On top of the color correction we added grain and film onion. As a result, the film’s moodboard turned out to be something between Peaky Blinders and Netflix’s Dark.
⬤ 03. Equipment
It is the professional lighting “makes” a short LGBTq film beautiful.
Making a festival short film LGBTq seems like a simple task, but half the credit for its success lies in the script. The second half of success depends on the experience of the production team. Depending on the qualifications of the employees and their creative capabilities, your film will either work or not. Often films on this topic are chosen by debutants and graduates of film schools who are not afraid of difficult topics. Frankly speaking, it’s very easy to make a short film LGBT, you just need to look around a little longer than usual. Taking a closer look, you will begin to notice that the world is not as simple as you thought.
