Introvert
We filmed this indie rock music video for NIZKIZ rock band, at an abandoned Soviet era factory. The shoot took place over two days, solely in that location. It serves as a continuation of the previous NIZKIZ project, which was also directed by Alex Aleinikov, our lead cinematographer.
The project team also included skilled gaffers, a lighting crew, and a set designer, along with makeup and costume artists. In this music video, the protagonist has grown older and succumbed to otherworldly dreams. YOPRST created an image depicting a recluse pausing and reflecting on his past life.
Task
The team had to fit it into two days of filming, but filming started unexpectedly and they had to prepare non-stop for several days. Make-up became an unexpected difficulty for us, since the team did not have such experience in aging a person for many years at once.
⬤ 01. Challenge
The team filmed indie rock music video on the fly, and there was very little time.
A music video for an indie rock band needs to be developed together with the musicians. Often the group itself can come up with very creative ideas that will look great in a video. It’s not for nothing that they write music? This means that everything is fine with their creativity. And therefore we can listen to them, but not necessarily. The production director must first convey his complete idea, and then try to integrate the proposals into it. They are not always suitable, then the music video for an indie rock band will look better in the director’s version.
On the filming of this music video members of the NIZKIZ group worked as actors on the first day. We shot a lot of material with them, including taking into account their personal wishes, as well as for social networks and marketing. In the video, we took scenes according to the script and edited them with scenes that were also filmed on the second day.
From a directing point of view, the difficulty arose in the scene of the death of the main character, when it was not obvious to the viewer. Director Sergei Talibov helped with advice and suggested how he would do this scene. This option was included in the script.
⬤ 02. Production and post
Production of an indie rock music video especially one with a small budget, needs to be shot quickly.
The music video of the indie rock band NIZKIZ was the directorial debut of our cameraman, who felt his power and decided to give it a try. The attempt was counted, but the clip turned out to be interesting in the picture and a little slow in dynamics. Thanks to good optics and a camera, it was possible to obtain excellent material that was easy to paint. We did a little color correction on the video, removed noise, and applied the till-orange color scheme. If you want to order a clip, check out the Instagram of our production company YOPRST.
When the video production company operator, Sasha Aleinikov, shot a music video for the group NIZKIZ for the first time, a symbiosis quickly arose between the creative people. The proposed ideas for the video were quickly approved, and work proceeded very quickly. Filming was completed in two days and a week was spent on editing and color correction.
Post-production of a video often takes from one day to a week, depending on the complexity of the work. If a high-budget video was filmed, then post-production can last a month if there are complex graphics.

Color correction of the music video was carried out in two stages. First there were scenes with the participation of the group NIZKIZ, and then they repainted the scenes with the main character and combined everything together. On top were the traditional deterioration for digital optics in the dechancer.
Digital cameras and modern optics create a very sharp and perfect picture, but many operators don’t like this, so the finished clean picture is deteriorated by adding noise, grain and craquelure.
⬤ 03. Equipment
Large renters often help with equipment to shoot an indie rock music video.
An indie rock band’s music video doesn’t have to include effects or graphics. It is better to concentrate on an interesting scenario that will force the viewer to watch the video to the end. Extra effects will only increase the cost of the video without giving anything in return if you have a bad script. An indie rock music video is often quite low budget because the bands don’t have a large audience. Many even ask their friends to film at least something to show their fans. In addition, the video is shot when a new album is released.
