I go numb
The music video for the band NIZKIZ was filmed by a team of professionals. Alex Aleinikov served as the cinematographer, Andrey Grinko directed, and Slava Salo was the producer. The imagery in some scenes looks brutal due to the large number of extras and powerful lighting.
The video was filmed in real time during an impromptu concert. During the concert, 80 kW of lighting was used, and fire trucks were spraying the audience with water at full force. The band themselves gathered the crowd, inviting their fans to listen to their music.
Task
To shoot a music video for a popular rock band, which acted effectively with a small budget and helped promote the new album. The Production team had complete creative freedom, but time for training was limited.
⬤ 01. Challenge
The music video of the rock band NIZKIZ had to look simple, stylish at the same time.
The music video of the rock band NIZKIZ was filmed in Minsk near a modern business center, as well as at the home of one of the musicians. The script for the video was written in one week, plus a week was spent on preparation. The video itself was filmed one day from lunch until night. The work plan always includes force majeure situations, and this could not have happened without it. The rock band’s music video wouldn’t be complete without a broken guitar and flying microphones.
When you are shooting a music video for a famous band, you have to try to make a good product for both the band and their fans. You need to understand their target audience and try to make a creative video that suits their style. For the current clip, according to the script, we film some scenes at home, and some at a concert.
For some of the home scenes, filming was simple. Difficulties began when filming moved to location. One of the difficult tasks was to correctly display the graphics on the screen, and the second was filming under the sprinklers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
⬤ 02. Production and post
The rock band’s music video was filmed according to plan until the main camera was flooded with water.
The rock band’s music video was large-scale by the standards of show business in Belarus. During the filming there was 80 kW of light, two fire sprinklers that simulated rain. Also, thanks to the group members, it was possible to assemble a crowd that imitated the concert. The clip was filmed simultaneously on several cameras, and in some frames the operator can be seen. When fire trucks started spraying water on the stage, water still got under the cover. However, filming was completed successfully.
When we started filming the concert scene, we only had one shot at this, since the extras’ clothes had to be dry at first, and wet after watering. Adding to the trouble was the cold weather and the scene had to be filmed quickly.
The water was turned on simultaneously from two watering machines, and then the shooting was carried out continuously. We then shot some interesting footage with a copter, which we used at the end of the clip.

In this music video, our video production company used a traditional color scheme, slightly removing the saturation and bringing the colors to pastel and natural colors, as well as contrasting aquamarine ones. Due to the fact that filming took place in the evening and at night, the result looked harmonious.
We did not add grain or distortion to the top of the picture, since Cooke optics softened and improved the picture itself and without our participation. The lenses produce soft bokeh and smooth out the image.
⬤ 03. Equipment
The rock band’s music video was shot on an ARRI Alexa camera and Cooke lenses.
The music video of the rock band NIZKIZ turned out so beautiful due to the excellent camera and optics. British Cooke optics creates a pleasant picture with soft bokeh that cannot be confused with anything else. All shots were taken with this lens, so the music video of the rock band stands out among all. Simple art, complex implementation, plus excellent optics – this is the recipe for a great video. If you want to repeat this success, we recommend that you contact us in production. Before ordering, look at the Instagram of our production company YOPRST to understand whether we are right for you.
